WESTON TROJAN YOUTH FOOTBALL & CHEER
FOOTBALL NEWS!
APRIL 30, 2012
TACKLE FOOTBALL REGISTRATION & EQUIPMENT FITTING (grade 4-8)
Registration ends June 1, and the tackle equipment representative will be here the next day on June 2, 9am - 12pm. This is instead of the earlier estimated 6/16 and 6/17 dates. You must already be registered online, and have paid the $350 registration fee to be fitted for tackle equipment. We will collect registration checks onsite as necessary. Lastly, a check for $150 is required as a security deposit on the tackle equipment. The security checks will only be cashed in the event the equipment is not returned in good condition at year-end.
JUNE TROJAN YOUTH FOOTBALL CAMPS OPEN FOR REGISTRATION
All WTYF&C "Friends" should have received the separate email blast from April 27, with links to Camp and Clinic information from Trojan Football Academy and the online registrations.
TACKLE FOOTBALL PRE-SEASON PRACTICE SCHEDULE (grade 4-8)*
The FCFL pre-season begins 8/13 for all FCFL teams and extends for three weeks until Labor Day and we will need those days to introduce all of our players to the new Weston Youth Football System. All of our players, especially the many new players stepping onto the football field for the first time, need to be conditioned and trained for safety purposes so that they are prepared to participate safely in the first scrimmages and games. We are laying the foundation during these critical weeks and taking advantage of the opportunity to access our high school football coaches' dedicated focus. The VP Football, Joe Lato, has put together an exciting schedule for the pre-season:
Week 1: 8/13-8/17, Mon. through Fri., 3pm - 5pm, Stadium Field
Week 2: 8/20-8/24, Mon. through Fri., 6pm - 8pm, Stadium Field
Week 3: 8/27-8/31, Mon. through Fri., 5:30 - 7:30pm, Admin Field
REGULAR SEASON TACKLE SCHEDULE (gr 4-8)*
Grades 4, 5, and 6 tackle teams remain on a Tuesday/Thursday/Friday practice schedule beginning after Labor Day, on 9/4, on Admin Field. At this time, we estimate 5:30-7:30pm practices.
Grades 7 and 8 will switch to a Monday/Thursday/Friday practice schedule beginning after Labor Day. Obviously, Monday 9/3 is the Labor Day holiday, and their first practice will be on Tuesday 9/4 with the rest of the organization this first week. This will be the same approach to future Monday holidays on 9/17 and 10/8. At this time, we estimate practice time to be 5:30-7:30pm.
FLAG PRACTICE SCHEDULE (gr 1-4)*
Flag practices will begin after Labor Day on Wednesday, September 5, and continue on following Wednesdays thereafter. At this time, we estimate practice time to be 6pm - 7:30pm. You can read more "About Flag" on the website by clicking here.
FCFL TACKLE RULES CHANGES
As promised, and explained by FCFL Board President Carm Roda at the information meeting in March, the FCFL Board has been studying the weight limitations for tackle football and this past week the FCFL voted to remove the maximum weight limits in each grade but offset this with a tighter age bracket. Secondly, the FCFL Board voted to increase the "skill position" limit by five (5) pounds in each grade, with a proposal to possibly increase the limit by another five (5) pounds for the heavier boys in grades 7 & 8 at the June 2012 FCFL Board meeting. The WTYF&C Board was pleased and supportive of both of these changes. This was a favorable outcome!
COACHES
Coach Lato has started communicating the training program and expectations with those who volunteered to coach or assistant coach as part of the registration process. If you have not heard from him-- it is not too late to raise your hand. Perhaps you forgot to "check the box" or are tardy in getting your son registered? If you want to be included-- register and volunteer. Yes, WTYF&C is committed to having non-parent head coaches but we also need the involvement and support of our families who want to get on board and learn this new system. Back-ground checks are mandatory. If you have any questions about a potential role for you, please contact Coach Lato, VP Football at 203-291-1618.
* The WTYF&C practice field schedule has not been approved yet by Parks and Recreation.
| | | | | | | 2nd Annual Youth Football Passing Tournament! | | | | | | posted 04/04/2012
The 2nd Annual “Trojan Air it Out” Tournament is a non-contact, one-hand touch football competition based on passing. Weston teams will compete against as many as 15 other town football programs at Weston Stadium. This all-day, all-fun event guarantees each town team four games, not including playoffs. Last year’s winners were Monroe and Norwalk. Let’s bring the trophies back home to Weston!
Weston will enter two teams:
Senior Division: current grades 6 & 7, compete Saturday, June 30
Junior Division: current grades 4 & 5, compete Sunday, July 1
This is a good tournament for any students participating in the WMS After-School Flag Football program (April 9 - June 4) and/or attending the Weston Trojan Youth Football Camp (June 11-14.)

| | | | | | | Gridiron Club Needs Your HELP! | | | | | | by
posted 02/08/2012 Hi Everyone,
As we all know, Football is the greatest sport on earth!
Being part of the Trojan Family is an increadible experience for our players. On and off the field, lifelong memories and friendships are made.
Football is also an expensive sport. Weston High School Football is unique - we don't rely on the schools overall booster club for funding (the Weston Booster Club does a great job helping our schools smaller sports), and we don't ask parents to just "cut a check" to pay for the costs.
Through the Gridiron Club we run fundraisers to raise the much needed money - and The Trojan Football Family needs EVERYONE'S help!
Here's what YOU can do:
1. Get involved with the Gridiron Club. Here's the easy part - as a parent of a player you are ALREADY a member of the Club!
2. Do you have a great fundraising idea? We want to hear it! Email me or come to our budget and fundraising meeting this Saturday at 9:00 a.m. 1 Arrowhead Way.
3. We need parents to help develop and run the fundraisers. If you can help - let me know!
For our players on the field - success comes from teamwork and everyone doing their job to the best of their abilities. Similarly, the success of the Gridiron Club depends on all of us pitching in and working together.
Thank you all for your continued help and support.
Dan

Reaching Your Dream Takes Courage
Courage is admitting that you're afraid and facing that fear directly. It's being strong enough to ask for help and humble enough to accept it.
Courage is standing up for what you believe in without worrying about the opinions of others. It's following your own heart, living your own life, and settling for nothing less than the best for yourself.
Courage is daring to take a first step, a big leap, or a different path. It's attempting to do something that no one has done before and all others thought impossible.
Courage is keeping heart in the face of disappointment and looking at defeat not as an end but as a new beginning. It's believing that things will ultimately get better even as they get worse.
Courage is being responsible for your own actions and admitting your own mistakes without placing blame on others. It's relying not on others for your success, but on your own skills and efforts.
Courage is refusing to quit even when you're intimidated by impossibility. It's choosing a goal, sticking with it, and finding solutions to the problems.
Courage is thinking big, aiming high, and shooting far. It's taking a dream and doing anything, risking everything, and stopping at nothing to it make it a reality.
